Virtual Event – “Section Three: Constitutional Remedy or Pipe Dream?”

September 29, 2023

A virtual event from Checks & Balances on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12 – 1 pm ET.

Checks & Balances hosted this virtual event featuring Judge J. Michael Luttig and New York Times columnist David French in conversation: “Section Three: Constitutional Remedy or Pipe Dream?”

The speakers discussed the legal merits of the argument put forward by authors William Baude and Michael Stokes Paulsen in their article “The Sweep and Force of Section Three,” which posits that Section Three of the 14th Amendment renders the former president Constitutionally ineligible to serve another term.

They discussed their own interpretations on Section Three as articulated in Judge Luttig’s recent Atlantic piece and French’s column on the matter.

Speakers:

The Hon. J. Michael Luttig, former Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Member of the Board of Directors of Checks & Balances, and Trustee of the National Constitution Center

David French, New York Times columnist, attorney, and distinguished visiting professor at Lipscomb University
