Law.com: “Conservative Lawyers’ Clarion Call to Defend the Constitution”

December 12, 2023

Writing in Law.com, attorney Michael Kenny covered our launch and efforts to protect the Constitution and rule of law from active threats.

He writes:

[The Society for the Rule of Law] are resolved “to speak out against the endless stream of falsehoods and authoritarian legal theories that are being propagated almost daily,” and have sounded the clarion call for lawyers—of all stripes—to defend the U.S/ Constitution, which “cannot defend itself.” As every civics student is taught, eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

In Federalist Paper No. 48, James Madison warned that the Constitution can be no more than a “parchment barrier” if a government (say a president) “draw(s) all power into its impetuous vortex.”

And in Federalist Paper No. 1, Alexander Hamilton noted that it is for the people to decide “whether societies of [persons] are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force.”

Lawyers on both sides of the political aisle are, in increasing numbers, recognizing the threat to the pillars of our system of governance.
