Statement on the Resignation of U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert

The resignation of U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert marks a new low point in the ongoing corruption of the Justice Department by a White House intent on using federal resources–not to defend the Constitution and the Rule of Law–but to persecute political critics and reward presidential sycophants.

The Society for the Rule of Law Institute condemns the president’s treatment of Mr. Siebert, his weaponization of the Justice Department, and those attorneys in his service who have betrayed their oaths and ethical obligations to enable this conduct.

We commend Mr. Siebert, and the scores of federal prosecutors before him, many of them our fellow conservatives, who had the principles and the courage to choose honorable resignation rather than disgraceful complicity in assaults on the rule of law.
