Statement on the FBI Raid at John Bolton’s Home

A statement from the Society for the Rule of Law Institute regarding the August 22 FBI raid at the home of former National Security Advisor John Bolton:

President Trump’s weaponization of the Department of Justice and the FBI to target his critics is a contemptible violation of the First Amendment and the rule of law under our Constitution. The search warrant executed before dawn at the home of Trump’s former National Security Advisor, John Bolton, should shock and frighten all fair-minded Americans. It is imperative that judges and the courts of law protect Americans from retribution by the president of the United States and his administration.

The leadership of the Society for the Rule of Law Institute condemns the administration’s pattern of utter disregard for fundamental constitutional rights and norms. The words and actions of President Trump and his accomplices are, quite simply, un-American. Furthermore, the attorney general’s statement that “Justice will be pursued. Always” flies in the face of this administration’s demonstrated track record of politicizing justice to reward allies and punish opponents.
