Spring 2025 Internship

December 17, 2024

Position: Intern
Company: Society for the Rule of Law
Location: Washington DC (hybrid)
Type: Spring Internship

The Society for the Rule of Law is a nonprofit, nationwide membership organization for attorneys, law students, jurists, and others who are dedicated to protecting and preserving the Constitution and America’s liberal-democratic norms, laws, and institutions. Our leadership and membership are made up primarily of conservative or libertarian legal professionals, though our organization is open to people of all political persuasions and career tracks.

Our work focuses on building a community of lawyers, and others, with a principled commitment to preserving the rule of law, the Constitution, and American democracy against illiberal threats, whether they arise on the right or the left. Ultimately our goal is to offer a pipeline for the next generation of pro-rule of law legal talent, opportunities for networking and education, and a voice of clarity on the relevant issues of the day.

To that end, the Society hosts regular virtual events on a wide range of topics relevant to the American constitutional order. Recent programs have covered Supreme Court rulings, impeachment powers, the pardon power, free speech rights, student loan cancellation, prosecutorial selection, the authoritarian threat, responsible citizenship, and more. Our in-person convenings include our signature annual Rule of Law Summit held in Washington DC, in addition to local networking opportunities. Our leadership regularly weigh in on legal news in the press, and sign onto amicus briefs in various cases.

We are led by Executive Director Gregg Nunziata, a veteran of the conservative legal movement and former Chief Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Our board of directors and charter members include attorney George Conway, former Judge J. Michael Luttig, former Rep. Barbara Comstock, and several veterans of previous administrations, including high-level Justice Department appointees and White House lawyers.

This is a hybrid in-person/remote internship opportunity working out of our office in downtown DC. Interns will be paid or receive school credit. Ideal candidates will have availability at least two days per week during the Spring 2025 semester. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, from undergraduate and graduate students. Those interested should submit a resume and cover letter describing why they are interested in working with us, along with their earliest possible start date and a breakdown of the days/hours they would be available, to [email protected].

Day-to-day responsibilities include the following:

  • Running, recording, editing, and posting webinars to the website
  • Promoting virtual and in-person events via our email list and social media accounts
  • Managing the Society’s social media presence and growing its online following
  • Researching legal topics and assisting with editing copy for articles
  • Managing outreach to Society members and greeting new members
  • Staffing occasional in-person events in the Washington DC area
  • Conducting outreach to faculty, students, and other constituencies of the Society

Ideal candidates will have the following skills:

  • Familiarity with the conservative legal landscape and its key players and institutions
  • A legal background, law-related coursework, or interest in the law
  • Share our pro-rule of law, pro-democracy mission
  • Ability to build relationships with external audiences and conduct outreach
  • Excellent organizational skills and willingness to take on new tasks
