March 27, 2025

Members and leadership from the Society for the Rule of Law Institute signed a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi urging her to defend members of the legal profession from attacks that run contrary to the rule of law. The letter was released by the Institute, in partnership with Democracy Forward.

ReutersMike Scarcella reports:

More than 700 lawyers and legal groups representing diverse viewpoints have signed onto a letter urging U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to defend the independence of attorneys and law firms, as the Trump administration escalates attacks on some of the country’s top law offices.

They said Bondi had a responsibility as the nation’s top government lawyer to oppose attacks on the legal profession and judges. The influence campaign comes a day after the White House targeted a fourth major law firm with an executive order that threatened its business …

Republican signatories included J. Michael Luttig, a former U.S. appeals court judge; former U.S. Representative Barbara Comstock, a senior advisor at Baker Donelson; Peter Keisler, a former acting U.S. attorney general under President George W. Bush; and Donald Ayer, a former top Justice Department lawyer under President George H.W. Bush.
