The Society for the Rule of Law is a nonprofit, nationwide membership organization for attorneys, law students, and others who are dedicated to protecting and preserving the Constitution and American democracy.
Our leadership and membership are made up primarily of conservative or center-right legal professionals, though our organization is open to people of all ideological persuasions and career tracks. Our goal is to offer a pipeline for the next generation of pro-rule of law legal talent, opportunities for networking and education, and a voice of clarity on the relevant issues of the day.
We are led by Executive Director Gregg Nunziata, a veteran of the conservative legal movement and former Chief Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Our board of directors and charter membership include retired Judge J. Michael Luttig, former Rep. Barbara Comstock, and several veterans of previous administrations, including high-level Justice Department appointees and White House lawyers.
This is paid one-year Fellowship position, and is available only on a remote/work from home basis. Ideal candidates will be recent graduates or other early-career track professionals, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
- Conducting legal research and drafting legal articles and memos
- Reviewing, cite checking, and evaluating amicus briefs
- Preparing the Executive Director for public and media appearances
- Accompanying the Executive Director to meetings with legal and policy professionals and other stakeholders
- Researching legal topics and drafting articles on law-related issues
- Planning virtual and in-person events by suggesting topics, identifying relevant experts, and structuring the conversation
- Assisting with editing copy for articles
- Managing outreach to Society members and creating outreach campaigns to grow our membership
- Conducting outreach to faculty, students, and other constituencies of the Society
- Staffing occasional in-person events in the Washington DC area and around the country
- Helping to organize local membership chapters and campus chapters
- Managing media requests and liaising with the press around our public statements and other communications output
Ideal candidates will have the following skills:
- A law degree from a U.S. law school
- Excellent legal and non-legal writing ability
- Familiarity with the conservative legal landscape and its key players and institutions
- Share our pro-rule of law, pro-democracy mission
- Ability to build relationships with external audiences and conduct outreach
- Excellent organizational skills and willingness to take on new tasks
- Ability to conduct thorough research on a quick-turnaround basis
