Jonathan H. Adler Joins our Advisory Council

The Society for the Rule of Law is pleased to announce that Jonathan H. Adler has joined our Advisory Council.
Jonathan Adler is the Tazewell Taylor Professor of Law at William and Mary Law School. A co-founder of the Society for the Rule of Law, Professor Adler is one of the nation’s leading thinkers in administrative and environmental law. He was the founding Director of the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law and is a senior fellow at the Property & Environment Research Center in Bozeman, Montana. He has authored and edited several notable books, including “Climate Liberalism: Perspectives on Liberty, Property and Pollution” (Palgrave, 2023), “Business and the Roberts Court” (Oxford University Press, 2016) and “Rebuilding the Ark: New Perspectives on Endangered Species Act Reform” (AEI Press, 2011).
Professor Adler is a regular contributor to many esteemed publications, including the Harvard Environmental Law Review and the Yale Journal on Regulation. He is a contributing editor to Civitas Outlook and you will find his work and commentary frequently appearing in The Volokh Conspiracy, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, Fox News Channel, and National Public Radio. He has testified before Congress numerous times and his work has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. A 2024 Leiter Reports study (on the years 2019-2023) named Professor Adler as the seventh most cited legal academic on administrative and environmental law.¹
Adler received his J.D. summa cum laude from the George Mason University School of Law and a B.A. magna cum laude from Yale University. After earning his J.D., he clerked for the Honorable David B. Sentelle on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
