Chris Truax in The Hill on Donald Trump and the Harry Potter Presidency

Charter member Chris Truax spoke with The Hill about the Trump administration’s “Harry Potter presidency.”

“That’s where Trump waves his Article Two, says some magic words and gets to do whatever he wants.”

Traux emphasizes that the Constitution grants no inherent emergency powers to the president; such powers must come from Congress and remain subject to judicial review. Allowing the president’s factual assertions to go unchallenged would be a form of “constitutional suicide” that undermines checks and balances and edges the country toward monarchy rather than republican government.
