American Bar Association Adopts Our Statement of Principles

August 6, 2024

We are pleased to announce that today the American Bar Association House of Delegates formally adopted our “Statement of Principles to Preserve, Protect and Defend the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and American Democracy.”

The ABA concluded that adopting the Statement “enables a comprehensive and forceful stance at this critical moment in defense of democracy and the rule of law.” The Statement aims:

To hold government officials, political leaders, candidates for high office, and leaders of the political parties responsible and accountable for the preservation, protection, and defense of the Constitution and the rule of law, and for adherence to the constitutional principles of America’s great experiment in democracy and constitutional self-government.

To affirm and reaffirm that the duty and responsibility of government and governmental officials is to the Constitution, the rule of law, and to the American people, and that it is the duty and responsibility of all public officials to serve all citizens, irrespective of their political party or other affiliation, association, or identity.

To honor America by preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution of the United States, the rule of law, and America’s democracy.

More than 1,700 Americans — including prominent attorneys, public servants, and concerned citizens— have signed the document. We are proud, and grateful, to have the American Bar Association join this growing community.

Thank you to our members for making this critical work possible. It couldn’t have come at a more important juncture.
